Trials
,Just a note on the trials.
I organised the trial last night for next years U10s.
I picked two teams, one mainly of b squad players and the other of newcomers.
I asked the A players to play amongst themselves as I know what they can do and I wanted the 'new' trialists to have a better opportunity of being on the ball.
Realistically the squads are unlikely to change, though I may make one or two additions to the extended squad.
So far I have seen no player better than what we've now got, nor anyone good enough to force their way in to the A squad.
At U11, the A team will be looking to increase in size by about 4or 5, giving most likely b team players the opportunity to step up, unless of course our team want to stay together and we can use the extended squad to make an 11-a-side squad.
Thanks

U9s v Town Green Panthers
This game for Thursday was a League error and will now not be played.
Cameron is Player of the Season for his consistently high performances, goal line clearances and rarely missing a tackle.
Ben McKittrick wins the Special Award, not only for consistently playing well and scoring the goal of the season from half-way, but also for the great spirit of fun he brings to the squad.
Our last game of the season will be on Sunday, KO 12.00, followed by a BBQ, weather permitting.
Please bring something to throw on the grill, and not too much alc beverages so you can still kick a ball - Mums too!
Open to all, family etc.
Thanks

U14s v Ormskirk WE Blue
Finally a 2-0 cup victory against league leaders and other cup (less prestigious) winners, who we always seem to have difficulty with.
Great free kick from Alex Gomes for the first and a tricky run and neat finish from Olie Roberts, cutting in from the left! (Sorry Ol!)
We do need to settle on the ball better, keep it simple, and have confidence in our ability to hold the ball and pick a pass out, but a great performance nevertheless!
Training Friday, with a friendly against U13's Sunday before a hectic run in.
For the future fixtures, please use the links to the below right of this page!

U9s V Town Green Lions
Despite a 2-0 defeat, another very promising performance, lots of chances created and two unlucky goals conceded.
We just need to be stronger in the tackle and firmer with the shooting, though Joel was unlucky with a great shot that their extra tall keeper managed to tip over!
Again, I think you can see the continual improvement and we're not a million miles away from turning narrow defeats into points.
Training NOW BACK TO RANGE DUE TO WEATHER, Wednesday 5pm.
Well done again and the cream eggs are on me!

U9s 1 v Redgate Green 2
Another excellent, hardworking team performance from all that really deserved at least a draw after outplaying Redgate for large parts of the game.
The improvement continues nicely, and though still losing to A teams, the defeats are narrower and not that far away from wins.
Everyone again played their part, with a great goal from Robert Ramsden and non stop running from man of the match Steven Dolan.
An extra mention also for Ryan Magilton, who stepped in for Cameron, and showed he can now comfortably make the step up from inter-club with an excellent display as a centre back/sweeper.
Well done again and see you at training on Wednesday!

Match Reports
U9s v Town Green Panthers - 0-0
A big thanks to everyone for trekking out to Winnifred Lane at the last minute!
A hardworking performance against a very good TG team, and despite Joe Gallen being man of the match for some great double saves, I think we won on points and effort and were the most likely to score!
Well done everyone!
U14s v Town Green 3-3
Joe Gallagher
Oliver Roberts
Andy Halsall
A monumental effort from the U14s to salvage a point and pride, after going behind three times and finally drawing level at a snowy Edge Hill.
This top of the table clash was always going to be tough and didn't disappoint, especially when injuries before the kick off resulted in the game plan being scrapped.
Ollie's goal was the pick of the three, a great header from a quality cross by Ali Garrow.
If we can add a little more of that quality to the graft and determination we will get even better!
As with the U9s, everyone did themselves proud.

11.50 @Deansgate for 12.30 KO, possibly 12.20.

I'm tempted to delete Neil's post below, as perhaps a bitter blue would in the alternate circumstances, but I will allow the blue of the squad to savour such prophecy and enjoy their victory, until Villa put them out. Come on the Villains!
Only joking - Everton for the Cup! mmmmmmm.

Hi Paul
Unfortunatley Joel will be unable to attend training on Wednesday as he is going to Goodison to watch Everton smash Liverpool out of the cup!
He will be available for Sunday's game.
Thanks - Neil

U9s
I would be grateful for a timely response to match blogs as I will use Luke, Ryan or Jack if any of the substantive squad is unavailable.
I am still waiting for confirmation from 3 players, which if they are not available gives little notice to draft in a replacement.

Response to Comment
hello Paul, having spoken to some of the other parents on Sunday I was informed you had asked whether anyone would prefer to rest their child for the odd game in favour of playing a full game. (performance being good enough)!I have spoken to Tom and he would much prefer this as he feels he does not get into the game as much playing 6 to 8minutes occasionally ,I would like to know if anyone agrees with this or disagrees. Stu,
Rep;
Near the start of the season when the squad was increased to 11 I asked if anyone would like a rest every so often or should I use the full squad, even when the full 11 are available.
I was only thinking of resting one player a week when we had the full 11.
This would not facilitate any boy playing a full game, bar perhaps one a week, without the 3 subs getting adequate playing time.
The apparently unanimous decision was to keep everyone involved every week.
I started using the boys 7 mins on, 7 off so each played 20/21 mins per game.
For the last 4 or five games I have gone to 10 mins on, 10 off, total at least 20 mins per player per game. Thus one player might play the whole game or 30 mins outfield if we have 3 subs. All 20 mins if 4.
No boy has ever played less than 20 mins total outfield.
I will not not play or substitute players of this age because of performance. Everyone will get at least twenty minutes. Goalkeeping time will not count so they get 20 mins out aswell.
As you can see I have given it some thought in the interests of fairness and development.
I would rather players come off and on rather than waiting a half on the sideline, and I won't take less than 3 subs .
So to cut a long story short, I don't agree, and the boys shouldn't need time to get into a game at this age, unless they are late and miss most of the warm up.

U14s v Ormskirk Blue
The next three weeks sees us play three important games in which we will look to play the strongest team from the start, with as few changes as possible, in what will probably be very tight and possibly title deciding games.
The right attitude of the subs over these games is essential.
We have given every player every opportunity to play, and spoken to individuals weeks ago to address what we believe they need to do to improve their chances of playing for longer.
The last few weeks everyone has worked really hard and made it difficult for us to pick the strongest team at this moment in time. The midfield is particularly competitive.
The main difference between players has been fitness, attendance at training and ability to play how we ask them to play once they go onto the pitch.
(Yes mums and dads, we do have tactics, so coaching from the sidelines will often only cause confusion, so just encouragement please!
I would also ask you to trust us as we have both been coaching (FA qualified) some of the lads for seven years now. Please accept our decisions are made in totally good faith.)
We appreciate attendance at training is not always possible, but for whatever the reason, it will affect our team selections.
There is little difference in ability of all of the squad, and those named as subs for the next couple of games, which might well change, we need them to know that they are still very valued and essential members of the squad.
Also there are many more games to follow in which they will have plenty of opportunity to address the parts of their play that need working on and make it difficult for us to put them on the bench.
So basically we can't guarantee the named subs a game over the next few games, and this may be particularly disappointing in the away games, but we will only make changes we see as necessary, not changes to give players a game during this period.
Unfortunately it's the price of playing for a team with title aspirations!
Thanks very much,
The Management!
