Football Season 2011/12
Formby Junior Sports Club was founded in January 1959 when Jim Rourke took his son Frank for a game of football at
A number of boys asked to join in, they enjoyed it so much that they told their friends about it, in no time there were enough boys for 4 football teams!
This was unique, all the teams belonged to Formby Junior Sports Club, it was the beginning of the famous “Inter-Club”
The idea of properly organised football matches with friends in their team, playing against friends in the opposing teams, appealed to the young enthusiasts.
It was “something different”, and what’s more “everybody got a game”!
It was also a very friendly atmosphere. It may not have been realised at that the time by those young players that membership of the “inter Club” football fostered their social growth. For quite a few it was the beginning of forming lifelong friendships.
The 22 “Inter- Club” teams continue to thrive alongside the 20 Representative Teams selected from inter-club players and who play mainly in the Craven Minor League, ranging from U7s - U16s.
All this from a game of “footy” on the park 51 years ago.

hello Paul, having spoken to some of the other parents on Sunday I was informed you had asked whether anyone would prefer to rest their child for the odd game in favour of playing a full game. (performance being good enough)!I have spoken to Tom and he would much prefer this as he feels he does not get into the game as much playing 6 to 8minutes occasionally ,I would like to know if anyone agrees with this or disagrees. Stu,
